“Empowered women: intimidating to some, forcibly oppressed by others, appreciated by many”
Over the years, women and girls have gained some power in the areas of employment, sports, individuality, self-expression, and sexuality. Yet, they continue to be oppressed whether they are publicly humiliated, mocked for their appearance, and/or systemically assaulted through political legislation. Together we will explore: What defines an “empowered woman?” Why are some afraid of women holding power? Why are vocal women called bullies, know-it-alls, and bossy? Why do, even other women, oppose any steps towards empowerment of women?
RSVPs to clinicalStaff@ywcaaustin.org are appreciated, but walk-ins are also welcome. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you believe might be interested.
