Countering Hate”

Considering the current political atmosphere, the fueling of hate speech and hate groups, and the “revelation” that we are not in a post-racial, post-sexist society, some people are scrambling to understand their reactions and other’s responses to hate.  Together we will discuss:  Is silence/lack of acknowledgement still an option?  Is use of violence/vandalism acceptable? How does this reality fit/not fit your world view?  What is the best response for you to counter hate?  What is the impact in your world?

RSVPs to clinicalStaff@ywcaaustin.org are appreciated, but walk-ins are also welcome.  Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you believe might be interested.

License to express ignorance and hatred”

Although racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia, etc. have never taken a break in our society, the current social and political atmosphere seem to have given license to many people to show their true colors without censorship.  People are being insulted and assaulted at grocery stores, places of worship are being desicrated, and symbols of white supremacy and hatred are being displayed proudly.    Together we will discuss: What gives people the gall to express their hatred without regard for others? How has the term “political correctness” been co-opted to negate human decency? How has the “right to free speech” been perverted to give this license? How does this impact you?

RSVPs to clinicalStaff@ywcaaustin.org are appreciated, but walk-ins are also welcome.  Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you believe might be interested.
